Prizes conferred on scientists and technicians
April 2, 2026A ceremony for awarding the February 16 Science and Technology Prize, Natural Science Prize, Technical Innovation Prize, certificates of Best Scientist and Technician of the State and Prize for Best Inventor in 2025 was held at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang on March 31.
Present there were Jon Sung Guk, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Sin Il Chol, deputy department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Song Bin, chairman of the State Commission of Science and Technology, Kim Sung Jin, president of the State Academy of Sciences, officials concerned, scientists and technicians.
Announced at the ceremony was a decision of the non-permanent committee for the examination of the February 16 Science and Technology Prize.
The diploma and medal of the February 16 Science and Technology Prize were conferred on ten projects which contributed to the country's economic development and the improvement of the people's living standards, the diploma of the Natural Science Prize on one project and the diploma of the Technical Innovation Prize on six projects, together with relevant awards.
Certificates of the February 16 Science and Technology Prize were awarded to 134 scientists, technicians and lecturers of universities and scientific research units, certificates of the Natural Science Prize to eight researchers and certificates of the Technical Innovation Prize to 59 scientists and technicians of different units.

The Prize for Best Inventor in 2025 as well as relevant awards was conferred on Jong Ryong Su, manager of the Pyongyang Jonghyang Building-materials Factory, and other persons.
