Russia criticizes West’s reckless acts in world’s oceans
March 29, 2026The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on March 23 to denounce the reckless acts the West is committing in the oceans around the world.
The European countries have recklessly stopped the foreign vessels not to their liking and taken them to their ports on the pretext that they violated the so-called international sanctions, the statement said, adding that such situation being created in the oceans around the world is never tolerable.
Russia regards such acts as a flagrant violation of the clauses and spirit of the UN convention on the law of the sea and will use all political, legal and other means to make sure that the principle of freedom of navigation is honoured, the statement noted.
It warned that those who try to turn the Baltic Sea and other seas into the “territorial waters” of NATO and the European Union will be unable to escape Russia’s countermeasures employing all necessary means.
Russia calls on the international community to take a principled stand in support of the UN convention on the law of the sea, and the relevant countries to join efforts to defend their legitimate interests without succumbing to the coercive neo-colonialist policy.
