With the implementation of the Regional Development 20x10 Policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea, regional-industry factories are springing up in cities and counties across the country.

Foundation laid for independent development

Regional-industry factories, which are more advanced in the architectural style and the modernization level of production lines than the previous ones, were built in 20 cities and counties last year to lay a foundation for the independent development of the regional economy.

Kim Jong Suk County in Ryanggang Province is one of the areas rich in forest resources, but it had few specialities due to the poor regional industry foundations. But now its regional-industry factories are making many kinds of products by drawing on local natural resources. The county people unanimously say that their boast of having wild herbs and fruits as their specialities has already become a bygone story.

Puryong County in North Hamgyong Province has many mountains but failed to benefit much from them. Now it turns out products peculiar to the mountainous county by using hazel mushroom, aralia shoots, bracken, leopard plant and fruits of Schizandra chinensis and Actinidia arguta. Various kinds of Puryongchon and Charyongchon-brand goods are winning popularity among locals.

Though Hwangju County is well-known as a granary, the local people always envied the urbanites since the regional industry failed to make any proper goods. Today, they are delighted to see the condiments, confectionery and daily necessities with the county’s brands of “Kindungbol” and “Hwangjuchon” on them.

Jon Un Chol and Ri Chun Hui, an old couple living in Kilju County, said that yongchae kimchi was the only speciality they could serve to guests, but now that the regional-industry factories were inaugurated, they can boast of products with the local trademark.

Toward change, higher ideal

The completion of regional-industry factories in cities and counties is bringing about a change in the living conditions of the local people.

In North Hamgyong Province, the Jungphyong Greenhouse Farm conducive to improving the people’s living standards was built a few years ago and the Onpho working people’s holiday camp and the Yombunjin coastal park area are now under construction. In addition, regional-industry factories of Puryong County were inaugurated to provide the local people with a more civilized life.

Sinpho City, where an offshore farm and regional-industry factories were built, turned into a comprehensive industrial area that can make effective use of marine resources.

The Jangyon County Foodstuff Factory, which is equipped with an advanced beer production line, makes products peculiar to the locality while increasing production indexes to help improve the material life of the county people.

Regional-industry factories in Janggang County are producing various kinds of foodstuffs such as pumpkin biscuit, sesame candy, Actinidia arguta juice and wheat paste, different kinds of essential plastic goods and furniture and garments in various forms and styles and supplying them to the residents of the county.

In less than a year, a modern hospital, regional-industry factories and a leisure complex were built simultaneously in Kangdong County. The local residents are now nurturing a higher ideal and ambition while enjoying the new life, new civilization and new welfare to their heart’s content.
