Role of each provincial sci-tech commission enhanced

Last year, every provincial commission of science and technology propelled regional development by increasing the local sci-tech force.

All the provincial commissions focused on research for increasing their leverage for economic development by tapping the natural and geographical potentials and resources of their regions most effectively and achieved successes.

North Hamgyong Province established an expansion perlite production process relying on raw materials abundant in the region to mass-produce different kinds of functional goods.

The products are light and good in heat insulation, soundproofing, sound absorption and heat shielding.

The province produced medicines, insecticides and plant nutrition boosters by using essential oil extracted from tree roots remaining in forests after timbering and made charcoal from the leftovers, thus turning such roots, which had been left as useless, into a great asset for the development of the region.

It also produces ornamental glass, plastic chandeliers, glass wall lamps and interior ornamental wood columns.

The various paints and decorative pattern paints for buildings made by the province by applying a recycling technology played a part in adding beauty to streets and villages including the colouring of buses.

And a lot of advanced technology products were invented, including portable essential oil suction machine and screw medicinal herb powder sorting machine, under the guidance of the province’s commission of science and technology.

South Hamgyong Province developed a hollow brick production technology which is of high utility as it makes it possible to save coal, building materials and power and use heat energy from baking for heating and cooking.

The coloured roofing tiles proving effective in the construction of rural houses and the natural stone products contributing to the improvement of people’s living standards in the province are the fruition brought about by increasing its sci-tech forces.

South Phyongan Province made inorganic coating materials, light burned magnesia panels and many other kinds of products with locally-available raw materials. North Phyongan Province made fuel economizer and high concentration air anion generator based on air ionization technology and South Hwanghae Province researched and completed a technology for making various kinds of colour sand from ore residues, thereby contributing to the domestic production of building materials.

Jagang Province used metallurgical by-products to mass-produce high quality coloured roofing tiles and made ornamental materials, plywood materials and others with different kinds of by-products of woodworking to be effectively used in construction.

The province also established an iron production process that can save a great deal of coal.

Kangwon Province provided a sci-tech guarantee for producing and supplying building materials needed for lots of construction projects by itself.

Rason Municipality made ornamental panels by recycling plastic waste and Kaesong Municipality developed die casting-based precision casting technology and various kinds of parts for optical communications equipment.
