A stirring age, the time full of changes, is flowing.

The Regional Development 20×10 Policy, the first cause of great changes since the founding of the country, has been expanded and developed to produce brilliant results and the heyday of construction in the capital city has been accelerated, transforming not only Pyongyang but also all the regions beyond recognition.

The foundations of the self-supporting economy have further been consolidated day by day and eye-opening successes have been achieved in the field of national defence, firing the people with burning enthusiasm. In addition, the gorgeous scenery of the Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Area in the East Sea of Korea redoubles their confidence in the future.

The greater the creation and changes grow in amplitude and the greater revolutionary tasks it is faced with, the higher priority and importance the Workers’ Party of Korea attaches to education.

At the initiative of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un the issue of taking a series of measures to strengthen the country's educational foundation was discussed as a separate agenda item at the historic Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK. He affirmed that the WPK would always put education first and give priority to it even if creation and changes grow in amplitude and the revolutionary tasks it faces are enormous.

Accordingly, the DPRK has made efforts to raise the education of the country to the world’s advanced level as early as possible.

This year alone, the Party and the state have taken full responsibility for and are pressing on with the production of educational apparatuses and materials, teaching aids and school things to provide the educators and students with the best working and studying conditions in a far-sighted way.

The modernization of schools, which takes a major share in strengthening the educational foundation, is steadily pushed forward as a state affair and projects are now in full swing to renovate schools as part of efforts to attain the ambitious goal to upgrade all schools across the country in the coming ten years.

Education is the most important state affair and the lifeline for the building of a powerful socialist country.

There are many things to which importance should be attached and priority should be given in advancing the revolution victoriously and achieving the prosperity of the country. But for the WPK, education is the most important affair over all other affairs, the number one state affair. As the future of the country and revolution depends on how the younger generations are prepared, it regards education as the lifeline directly linked to the destiny of socialism and the success or failure in building a prosperous and powerful country and attaches the utmost importance to the development of the educational field over all others.

An educational and talent power that prospers and thrives on the strength of education precisely means a socialist power the DPRK people aspire to and are building. Therefore, the WPK is directing the primary and greatest efforts to education even if it faces uphill tasks for the revolution and construction and encounters manifold difficulties.

The past 10-odd years were a stirring period when it put education first above all other affairs and ushered in a new era of a powerful country on the strength of intense love for the younger generations.

In 2012, it worked out a grand plan and strategy to open up the heyday of building a powerful socialist country and began a grand struggle. In that significant year General Secretary Kim Jong Un brought about a historic event, the enforcement of the universal 12-year compulsory education.

He set 2017, the significant year marking the 40th anniversary of the publication of President Kim Il Sung's work "Theses on Socialist Education", and 2018 as the years of science and education. In 2023 he also took radical measures to turn the educational structure of the country into an advanced one and decisively improve and strengthen the educational work in order to raise the country’s education to the world level as early as possible.

At the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK held in December 2021, he said it is the consistent policy of the Party and the state to supply school uniforms and school things to all students across the country at the state’s expense, taking crucial measures of the Party Central Committee. After this historic plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee, school uniform and schoolchildren’s footwear factories were built in every province and a well-regulated system and order were established for providing students across the country with school uniforms, bags and shoes.

On his visit to the flood-hit areas in Uiju County of North Phyongan Province in August last year, he noted that the issue of nursing, upbringing and educating children and students is the number one state affair that can never be compromised whatever happens.

Accordingly, the education of students in the flood-stricken areas was adopted as the top priority state affair last year. Mobile educational groups involving excellent teachers were urgently formed and temporary classrooms with proper educational conditions and environment were set up at the April 25 Hotel. There children studied to their heart's content.

A large number of schools, branch schools and kindergartens were newly built and renovated and multi-functional classrooms above the middle class increased by over 2 000 more than the plan, bettering the educational conditions and environment last year, too, when new houses were built in the socialist rural areas, monumental structures symbolic of the heyday of capital construction mushroomed and the construction of modern regional-industry factories was pushed on a full scale in 20 cities and counties across the country according to the Party’s new regional development policy.

Now the younger generation of the DPRK is exalting the honour of the country and firmly consolidating the foundation of the self-supporting economy with world-startling scientific and technological achievements.

The new golden age of construction is also closely associated with the wisdom, enthusiasm and strenuous efforts of the younger generation who received Juche-oriented education. Promising and dignified talents and other young people possessed of the resilient fighting spirit and intelligence of the Korean people have made Juche weapons of the DPRK style that the world has never seen in succession at the highest speed of development and volunteered to work at the most difficult and labour-consuming fronts of socialist construction, cherishing the Party's intention as their ideal.

The undying feats of General Secretary Kim Jong Un, who always gives priority to education even if the creation and changes grow in amplitude and the revolutionary tasks facing the country are enormous and ushers in a new heyday of the development of Juche-oriented education, will shine forever along with the sacred history of the DPRK.
