Among the public catering facilities popular among the Korean people is the Pothonggang Soft Drinks located on the picturesque banks of the Pothong River in Pyongyang.

It has been well liked by the citizens of Pyongyang for more than 50 years since its opening.

According to Pang Ok Hwa who has worked as its manageress since 2011, its popularity is attributable to its modern service environment and its cooks’ high qualifications.

Pang said that the visitors to it have further increased since its remodelling in 2012, adding that they spend a pleasant time in several service rooms built splendidly, relishing various kinds of bread and drinks as well as the famous Taedonggang beer.

Breads made and served here are also sought-after by customers, she said.

The Pothonggang Soft Drinks frequently organizes a bread show to steadily improve the taste and quality of the food and also attaches importance to obtaining the feedback from customers.

Therefore, the breads are in great demand for its unique flavour and huge variety.

Ri Il Hwa, a woman living in Sosong District, Pyongyang, said that she often visits the Pothonggang Soft Drinks with her family and also has breads delivered from it as her family are fond of them.

At the national cooking festivals top prizes were awarded several times to the breads made and presented by the cooks of the Pothonggang Soft Drinks, Pang said, adding that they are making efforts to increase the variety of breads and improve their quality without resting on their laurels.
