Okryu Children’s Hospital a medical service base for children

The Okryu Children’s Hospital in the Munsu area of Pyongyang was inaugurated in October 2013.

The hospital, equipped with the latest medical equipment and excellently designed to meet the children’s minds, has so far offered medical services to lots of children, said Jo In Su, director of the hospital.

Thanks to the painstaking research and devoted efforts of its medical workers to promote the children’s health, advanced diagnosing and operating methods have been widely introduced and marked successes achieved in the medical treatment of patients.

The cardiovascular surgery department, for example, newly established in Korean way several methods of heart operation which are known as excellent and advanced medical techniques in the world public health circles and restored to health many patients with congenital heart diseases.

According to Ri Chol Jin, department chief who won the best inventor prize of the country in 2021, one of the methods, for example, places a heavy mental and physical burden on the operator for its narrow and deep visual field, but it causes little post-operative complications including bleeding, takes shorter operating time than the previous method and is advantageous from the aspect of beauty.

Medical workers of the haemorrhagic abdominal surgery department also put on a scientific footing the advanced operating method to repair the injured parts of the human body without cutting off the internal organs and established new operational methods, which are highly effective in the domain of abdominal surgery, short in treatment period and free from complications.

The medical workers of the hospital also made and introduced peripheral nerve stimulator, atraumatic needle and many other medical appliances and supplies to improve the quality of medical services.

In the course of this, many of them were awarded academic degrees and titles.

The hospital ran the telemedicine on a regular basis to hold over 15 000 online consultations and give lectures for medical workers, contributing greatly to improving their practical abilities and resuscitating lots of children.

The innovative medical science research findings of the hospital won the February 16 Sci-tech Prize and the Scientific and Technological Innovation Prize.

All of its medical workers would fulfil their responsibilities in protecting the children’s health with pride in working at the medical service base for children named by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, said An Jin Yong, deputy director of the hospital.
