For better foods and better future

October 17, 2025

October 16 is World Food Day.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the setting of World Food Day and the 80th anniversary of the FAO.

The organization selected “Hand and Hand for Better Foods and Better Future” as the theme for this year’s WFD to put emphasis on the ideal and spirit of cooperation of the organization at the time of its founding in order to combat the world famine and create a better future of food and agriculture.

The organization noted that only when not only nations but also all sectors and units including governments, cities, social organizations and media organizations and all the working people including youth and students work together with each other, can environment-friendly and healthy dietary conditions be provided to everyone.

Many countries are now working hard to promote cooperation between the state, businesses and organizations in order to establish rational farming methods and introduce modern science and technology into the agricultural sector. They are taking measures to prevent damage by heavy rain to suit their actual conditions, while securing water resources, planting drought-resistant crops and varieties and widely applying water-saving farming methods.

In the DPRK great efforts have also been directed to minimizing the damage by extreme weather conditions including high temperature and heavy rain. It now pushes ahead with the construction and repair of pumping stations, construction and overhaul of irrigation structures and repair of waterways by giving priority to irrigation projects across the country.

At the same time, it concentrates on the timely production and supply of highly-efficient farm machines which are needed for the fulfilment of farm operations according to processes including seed sowing.

It also steps up the programme for changing the grain production structure into that of rice and wheat production and positively encourages the introduction of advanced farming methods.

Modern vegetable greenhouses have been built throughout the country, fruit and functional vegetables are produced and seeds of various vegetables are secured for greenhouse farming.

Positive efforts of many countries to alleviate the food crisis and boost agricultural production and many-sided exchange and cooperation between them will bear good fruits.
