Solar power plants bring benefits

July 18, 2025

The Jinung PV Module Factory of the Jinung Trading Company, a base for producing high-tech products, is leading the development of renewables of the country.

“The factory, which has established a monocrystalline and polycrystalline silicon solar panel production line and R&D base for developing power system equipment needed for power generation system, produces full sets of equipment needed for the solar PV system and introduces them into different sectors of the national economy, thus leading the solar PV industry of the country," said Jo Chung Nam, technical staffer of the factory.

The intelligent solar panels produced by the factory are highly resistant to potential induced degradation and ensure sustainable output for over 25 years.

The factory was the first to propose a system whereby units and families make joint investment to build a power station, instead of installing solar panels by themselves, and they are provided with electricity produced by the power station through the national power grid, and it completed the operation plan for the whole process from the building of the power station to the supply of electricity.

Joint solar power plants are now being built and in operation in different cities of the country including Pyongyang, Phyongsong and Hamhung.

Power production based on sunlight is beneficial to the protection of ecological environment and surplus electricity from households is delivered to the national power grid to bring great benefits to the country, thereby arousing public interest and expectation.

Relevant families join the solar power plant electricity service system with their idle money and are supplied with enough power needed for their homes out of the electricity produced with its power-generating capacity. Additional electricity generated by the solar power plants is notified to the power service rooms of the relevant residential quarters at the beginning of each month, and the consumers can receive the electricity delivered to their home at a convenient time.

The factory also provides all technical services, ranging from technical agreements on solar PV systems of other solar power plants to design, making, construction, installation, trial runs and technical guidance during operation.

This year, too, the factory built solar power plants with capacities of 500kW and 420kW in the Mangyongdae area of Pyongyang and the Hamhung area of South Hamgyong Province.

The demand for solar power plants is increasing as they bring economic benefits to both the state and users.
