A department director of the Russian foreign ministry in an interview with the newspaper Izvestia on May 21 censured the European Union for clinging to reckless sanctions.

He said that the anti-Russia sanctions policy of the EU has not only failed but brought a huge loss to the economies of the European nations, deriding that it would be too much for the EU to admit this fact.

The EU member nations are unwilling to take the responsibility for the aftermath of their sanctions policy before their people, he said, adding they are frantically describing their policy as “important and influential”.
