Iran protests against UK’s arrest of its citizens

May 24, 2025

The Iranian Foreign Ministry called the British charge d’affaires in Teheran on May 18 to strongly protest against the wrongful arrest of some Iranians in the UK.

Referring to the fact that the UK arrested the Iranian citizens without evidence, deliberately notified the Iranian embassy in London late of that and refused them consular access and support, the ministry branded it as a violation of international law and regulations related to human rights.

It demanded the British government articulate the reason and legal ground for detaining the Iranian citizens and honour its obligations with respect to international treaties including the Vienna convention on consular relations, warning that the UK would be held accountable for the consequences to be entailed by its wrong measures.

Earlier, the British police announced that it indicted three Iranians who were arrested on suspicion of being engaged in espionage activities between August 2024 and February 2025.
