Dairy products supplied to every child

Uam-dong is in Sonbong District of Rason Municipality in the northernmost tip of the country.

The national road which starts in Pyongyang ends here, where the Tuman River empties into the East Sea of Korea.

Tori village in Uam-dong is fairly far away from the dong seat, with only 30-odd households.

As it is a remote mountain village at the northern end, it was a lonely place with not many visitors. But now it always livens up as the welcome “guest” visits it every day.

It is the vehicle that runs over a hundred kilometres every day for the supply of dairy products to only a few children in the village from the Sonbong Children's Foodstuff Factory, dairy products supplier.

One day several years ago, the Tori villagers were waiting for it impatiently looking over the village path.

The Third Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea discussed the issue of improving and promoting its childcare policy as one of the major agenda items. Accordingly, nutritious foodstuffs including dairy products began to be supplied to children across the country at the state’s expense. The time came when the care of the Party and the state would be delivered to only a few children in their village.

“There it comes!” someone gave a shout of joy.

A vehicle carrying dairy products entered the village and it was instantly surrounded by the villagers.

Saying that they had never seen such a rare event since the village was built, the villagers grasped the hands of an official of the Sonbong Children’s Foodstuff Factory and the driver for a long while.

Since then, it has become a regular part of their daily routine to warmly receive the vehicle.

The vehicle carrying dairy products has run a total distance of about 100 000 kilometres to and from Tori village over the past several years.

Several years have passed and only three children are now taking dairy products, but the route of this vehicle remains unchanged.

One winter day several months ago when a blinding blizzard blew fiercely, the vehicle entered the village with the familiar whistle at the set time.

Looking at the vehicle coming in time, all the villagers keenly felt once again the genuine sincerity of the WPK and the state which regard children as the king of the country and show all sorts of loving care for them, they said.

Vehicles carrying dairy products go everywhere to supply them to children in every nook and cranny of the country.
