The 12th Sports Contest of the Public Health Sector opened with due ceremony at the Taekwon-Do Palace in Pyongyang on May 2.

Such events as basketball (men), volleyball (men and women), table tennis, Taekwon-Do and tug of war are to be held in the contest, divided into two groups.

Present at the opening ceremony were Choe Tong Myong, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned and public health workers including players.

After the ceremony, there was a march-past of all the teams and a men's volleyball match between the teams of the Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences Hospital and the Academy of Medical Sciences.
