Scientist contributes to development of agriculture

 Kim Sang Chol, PhD, associate professor and section chief of the Agricultural Chemicalization Institute of the Academy of Agricultural Science, wrote “Photo album of blight in grassland”, a book of national treasure value, which is badly needed for normal management of artificial grassland in the Sepho area eight years ago. It has since been widely disseminated and used in the scientific research sector and production units in the agricultural sector.

He developed and introduced six kinds of mixed herbicides, which help increase grain production per hectare by raising weeding effect in the cultivation of grain crops, and a seed coating material, which prevents damage by underground harmful insects and birds, making a great contribution to the country’s agricultural development.

The products developed by him in recent years prove highly effective in the agricultural sector.

Best inventor in public health sector

Won Sung Gwon, professor, PhD and section chief of the orthopaedics hospital of the Korea General Red Cross Hospital, made artificial caput femoris and articulatio coxae body of various forms to suit the physical constitution of the Korean people by conducting research on ensuring domestic production of medical appliances and applied them to the treatment of trauma and diseases.

He also researched and completed the methods of surgical operations for lumbar disc herniation, cervical spondylosis, coxarthrosis and other diseases to suit the constitution of the Korean people, making a great contribution to the development of public health.

He developed and introduced essential medical instruments and surgical materials for cutting-edge operations in the fields of traumatic orthopaedics and spinal surgery to enhance the therapeutic effect. He has come up with several inventions of great significance in medical practice in recent five years.

Several inventions he applied to the treatment of spinal diseases are recognized in the academic circles and clinical practice as they are of great national significance. And they have become a “magic means” of helping patients recover their health.

Korean-style geothermal pump

Pae Jun Il, director of the Sinhungsan geothermal technology research and manufacturing company of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of Science and Technology, is also known as a vacuum pump and heat engineering expert for his elaborate inventions. Though he has brought enormous benefits to the country, he is more conscious of what he has to do than what he did.

He achieved great success by developing an advanced Korean-style geothermal pump using refrigerant abundant in the country and introducing it into various units.

He designed several inventions including a new-type high-performance natural draft boiler, a Korean-style powdered milk production equipment making technology and a technology for breeding sea cucumbers in all seasons with the help of seawater heat pump to make a distinguished contribution to implementing the childcare policy of the state and developing offshore culture.

In particular, he made several inventions to optimally design and manufacture the vacuum pump, a core of the powdered milk production facilities, to meet the domestic situation and bring its quality indices up to the advanced level in the course of developing the Korean-style technology of manufacturing powered milk production equipment.

In recent years, he made a great contribution to the development of the country’s regional economy and the improvement of the people’s living standards by designing six significant inventions.

Scientist contributes to power production and development of paper industry

Ro Yong Chil, PhD, associate professor and section chief of the Paper Engineering Institute of the State Academy of Sciences, made a great contribution to the electric power production by ensuring the domestic production of air oil separator and filter paper for large screw compressor, which required an urgent solution in large thermal power stations.

Typical of his successes is the development of special functional papers to promote the progress in various sectors of the national economy and public health.

Referring to the invention of national significance urgently needed for the paper industry, experts say that it is a success showing his scientific conscience and high ability.

In particular, it is a success of great utility value that he developed base paper of release paper for the production of synthetic leather to suit the specific conditions of the country and thus laid the foundations for its production at factories.

Two-time winner of Best Inventor Award

Among the winners of Best Inventor Award is So Myong Hyok, officer of the Public Security Forces.

The award winner in 2021, he was nominated for the Best Inventor Award again in 2024.

The fact clearly shows the genuine outlook on life of So Myong Hyok, who devotes his all to the social progress and development with knowledge and technology. 

He came up with five significant inventions conducive to the management of revolutionary battle sites and revolutionary sites, eternal treasure of the Korean revolution, in the past three years. One of them is a new rotating body of the automatic flag fluttering device he invented and introduced, contributing to demonstrating the dignity and might of the country.
