Now that science and technology are regarded as an engine driving socialist construction, it becomes more important for universities which train the “engine drivers” to fulfil their mission.

Especially, the position and role of Wonsan Jong Jun Thaek University of Economics is truly important in view of the Workers’ Party of Korea’s intention to radically improve the national economy in keeping with the ever-rising dignity of the DPRK.

It is a policy of the Party on the development of universities to build research universities that achieved the integration of education, scientific research and production on a high level.

In recent years, the university has made a considerable success by concentrating its efforts on improving the qualifications of lecturers, bringing education and scientific research close to the reality and solving urgent problems in practice.

Last year alone, there has been a remarkable improvement in the abilities of lecturers as the number of holders of academic degrees and titles in major fields increased and over 60 lecturers raised their degrees of qualifications.

The university sent 70 lecturers to in-service training institutions to promote cooperation and exchange between central and regional educational units and dispatched more than 50 lecturers to production sites to make positive contributions to solving the problems arising in practice.

In the course of this, they contributed to solving urgent problems arising in implementing the Party’s important economic policies including the Regional Development 20×10 Policy.

In particular, the lecturers and researchers of our university made a great contribution to putting production of regional-industry factories in Kangwon Province on a normal footing.

We have made notable achievements at national festivals, exhibitions and presentations and also learned much from the experience of other units.

Many proposals from our university, including the “Commercial specialized simulation training support system”, “Some problems arising in improving the system of the standardization law at present” and “National production target estimate simulation system”, were highly appreciated.

Especially, “Integrated management system of the Munchon Steel Works” won the first place in the information sector of the 37th National Festival, “Enterprise financial management simulation training program” came first at the national youth sci-tech successes exhibition and “Management decision-making support system” was registered as an excellent IT product at the national exhibition of IT achievements-2024. 

In order to fulfil the mission of the university which should contribute to the prosperity of the country through scientific research successes and by training scientific and technological talents, it is necessary to actively introduce latest science and technology into the teaching management and administration.

I think that the university’s success in scientific research and training talents precisely means the economic development of the country.
