Russian President Vladimir Putin decried the confrontational line of the West at the international forum on the North Pole held in Murmansk on March 27. 

He disclosed that many Western countries opted for the confrontational line against Russia and broke off scientific and educational and cultural contact and dialogue on protecting ecological environment in the Arctic. 

Regarding the Arctic as a bridgehead of possible conflict, NATO is practising the method of using armed forces by mobilizing the forces of Finland, Sweden and other countries, and the fact is arousing the serious concern of Russia, he pointed out. 

Saying that the role and significance of the Arctic are increasing and the geopolitical competition and fight are intensifying in the region, he emphasized that Russia will do everything to boost its initiative in the region.
