Farm introduces method of cultivating seedlings in greenhouses
March 30, 2025The Jehyon Farm of the South Phyongan Provincial Rural Economy Committee has actively introduced the method of cultivating seedlings in greenhouses.
"The method of cultivating seedlings in greenhouses was introduced last year, with a result that the farm increased grain output by over 1.3 tons per hectare more than when conventional seedlings were transplanted in 40 hectares of fields,” said Kim Song Hwa, manageress of the farm.
The farm has put the seeding process on a streamlined basis in the growing of young rice plants in greenhouses and is planning to introduce a cylindrical cultivation device this year.
It is reported that when the cultivation frame designed cylindrically turns round periodically, rice seedlings growing in boxes are exposed to sunlight evenly and the light and temperature can be automatically controlled throughout the growing process from the germination of seeds to the growing of young plants.
The greenhouse with cylindrical cultivation equipment will save the nursery area and materials much while shortening the period of nursery cultivation and reducing the labour force for nursery.
It is said that after raising rice seedlings, such vegetable crops as lettuce, pumpkin and tomato can be grown on a large scale in the remaining season.
“We are planning to transplant greenhouse seedlings in all paddy fields in the future. The key to high-yielding lies in the strenuous efforts to introduce advanced farming methods on the basis of scientific calculation,” said the manageress.
