Hyon Kum Sun, a 70-year-old woman living in Central District, Pyongyang, has invariably assisted the Korean People’s Army for over ten years.

Shortly ago, she visited a KPA unit bringing with her aid materials which she had prepared with sincerity. Officers of the unit said that they are more keenly conscious of their sacred duty to defend the country whenever they meet people like her.

Choe Song Gum, a resident of Sosong District in the city, has offered material and moral help to major construction sites this year as she did before.

“The country regards the birth of triplets as a big happy event and takes care of my family. Over the past ten-odd years I did many things good for the country but they are trifling as compared with the care the Party and state show for my family. So I will keep offering such assistance and make my four children join the army for national defence,” she said.

Pak Phil Nyo, an elderly resident of Waudo District in Nampho, is held in respect by many people as she has taken the lead in aiding the army and other good work with her children.

The patriotic traits of women are not limited to individuals.

This year women in Haeju and Nampho cities volunteered to work at school uniform factories and raw materials bases before others after hearing the news of the inauguration of regional-industry factories that was reported in succession.

According to Paek Sang Gum, chairwoman of the South Phyongan provincial committee of the women’s union, more than 1 100 women volunteered to work in labour-consuming sectors in the province in a month after the beginning of the new year.

Many women in Sinuiju City, Uiju, Kim Hyong Jik and Kim Jong Suk counties and Kanggye City which suffered flood damage last year volunteered for the urban management sectors, farms, school uniform factories and others with the determination to better their native places, which had been turned into cradles of happiness.

True to the plan of the Workers’ Party of Korea to improve the material and cultural life of the people, those in Sinpho City of South Hamgyong Province and Chongjin City of North Hamgyong Province volunteered to work at the offshore farm, different factories and farms and raw materials bases of regional-industry factories.
