Sci-tech festival of Kim Il Sung University held
March 7, 2025The 38th Science and Technology Festival of
The festival on the theme of “Science and technology are the engine for overall national prosperity” drew the attention of many people as it took place in the period when the scientific research and education sectors are working hard true to the decisions of the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea calling on the scientific circles to turn out as one to successfully implement the decisions of the Eighth Congress of the Party.
The festival brought together more than 1 700 lecturers, researchers, postgraduates and students of faculties and other units. Presented to it were more than 180 scientific research findings which contributed to economic construction and the improvement of the people’s standards of living, including the development of an integrated production system for the Sinpho City Offshore Farm, which has proved effective since its introduction into the farm last year.
Eye-catchers were the research successes made in the key industrial sectors, including those which opened up the way for the domestic production of ferrotitanium and laid the foundation for the establishment of the titanium industry, made it possible to mass-produce hydrogen peroxide needed for different sectors of the national economy and invented an up-to-date infrared gas analyser. But what particularly delighted visitors were those successes made in the agricultural sector
A research success aroused the admiration and wonder of visitors as it contributed to agricultural development by using a bioengineering method to select rice families based on genome edition which are expected to ensure the average number of grain per ear at 260, ripening rate at 90.8 percent and per-hectare yield at 15 tons.
“The technology to integrate water control and fertilizer application in paddy rice cultivation and the research success to resolve the problem of phosphatic fertilizer with our own raw materials are very good. But this research success excites me. I would like to meet and thank the researchers who carried out the research,” said Ri Kun Hyok, a farmer of the Jonjin Farm in Rangnang District.
The exhibits included very many research achievements made in the efforts to implement the Regional Development 20×10 Policy.
The visitors were very pleased to hear the explanations about the quality analysing systems introduced into regional-industry factories in 20 cities and counties and the integrated production system which offers the Sinpho City Offshore Farm a sci-tech guarantee for properly managing and operating offshore sea-farming grounds and kelp and scallop cultivation grounds to ensure maximum economic profits and increased production.
They also showed great interest in the research successes giving answers to urgent problems arising in practice, including the one which solved the technical problems in converting high-definition TV into the ultrahigh-definition and the invention of a leaking detector which can find out leaks of underground water pipes without having to dig.
Saying that a university made so many and wonderful research successes and that if such successes made across the country are collected, they will be really amazing, the visitors expressed their will to pay close attention to the scientific research and education sectors.
