WHO decides to maintain state of health emergency to cope with monkeypox virus infection
March 4, 2025The World Health Organization decided on February 27 to maintain an international state of health emergency to cope with monkeypox virus infection which is spreading with Africa as the centre.
The organization said that they decided to maintain the highest level of alert since the monkeypox cases arise in different African countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo which is poor in contagious disease responding capacity due to armed conflict, etc.
The number of monkeypox cases which had been confirmed through experimental test from the beginning of last year to January this year reached over 21 000, and most of them occurred in African countries.
