Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova rejected Japan’s demand for talks for concluding a peace treaty in a press conference on February 14.

She said that Russia regards it as unpromising to hold dialogue for the conclusion of a basic document that should be the basis of long-term good-neighbourly relations under the circumstances in which Japan pursues an unfriendly policy against her country.

Demanding that the Japanese authorities admit the whole result of the Second World War, she said that the result has been fixed in the UN Charter and that the southern Kurils are an inseparable part of Russia according to the charter.
