Lake Sohung is located in North Hwanghae Province, an intermediate mountainous region of the DPRK.

Located in the middle reaches of the Sohung River flowing through the Chailbong Mountains, it is a picturesque artificial lake called the “sea of North Hwanghae Province”. 

Covering an area of 15.71㎢, it is 87.9km around, 19.6km long and 0.8km wide. The clear water of the lake flows along the 1 200km-long waterway into Pongsan and Unpha counties and the city of Sariwon of North Hwanghae Province to irrigate fields in these areas.

The lakeshore has a mountain-climbing course along the cliff.
