Russian FM calls for complete elimination of root cause of Ukrainian crisis
February 15, 2025Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting held on February 10 on the occasion of the Day of Diplomats that the root cause of the Ukrainian crisis is deep and only when it is completely eliminated could the path to the end of the dispute be opened.
The root cause of the Ukrainian crisis is that Russia’s security is threatened by the expansion of NATO to the east and the Ukrainian authorities, who seized power by unconstitutional coup, are clinging to the line of obliterating Russian language, culture and everything, he stressed.
Russia strongly demands the elimination of the root cause, he said, adding it would definitely see the fruition.
Moscow would continuously strive to create a system undaunted by outside pressure in all fields necessary for normal contact between countries including international settlement and transport in cooperation with its allies.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, he said, adding that the sacred duty of Russia before the heroic generations who liberated Kiev, Berlin and Prague is to preserve the historical memory of the great victory and wage an uncompromising struggle against those who propagate neo-Nazi ideology and distort the history.
