In the period of Koryo (918-1392), porcelain vessels, silk, paper, ink and other articles were popular in other countries for their superior quality. 

Fan was among the articles.

Fan has a long history in the country. 

Fans are depicted in the murals of the Mausoleum of King Kogugwon (a Koguryo tomb with murals dating back to the mid-4th century) in Anak County, South Hwanghae Province. The folding fans in the period of Koryo were widely known abroad for their exquisite workmanship and elegant decoration. 

It is said that a foreign country made fans by modelling on famous Koryo fans and named them Koryoson (Koryo fan).
