Russian president refers to tasks facing educational sector
February 11, 2025Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to the tasks facing the education sector in a speech at a meeting of the Science and Education Council on February 6.
He emphasized that the school curriculum for natural science subjects, including mathematics, should be comprehensively updated and that what is most important is to make the curriculum understandable and interesting to students.
He pointed to the need to remove from the university curriculum for training technical talents outdated contents that do not meet the demand of the economic sector and draw up individual teaching plans for students to be engaged in the fields of specialization.
He said that when providing a normative basis for a new higher education system, the possibility of phased professional education should be foreseen and that university students should be allowed to gain relevant qualifications through judgment after finishing a certain course.
Thirty or fifty percent of Russian technicians on the job are those who should improve their qualifications, he said, adding that the relevant sector should present detailed plans for improvement of qualifications and additional professional education and legally fix the form of secondary professional education based on cooperation with major businesses.
