The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on January 21 that it will invalidate the memorandum between the Russian and Japanese governments on the activities of Japanese companies in Russia in accordance with the directive of the government of the Russian Federation dated January 15 2025. 

The Russian Foreign Ministry asserted that the unprecedented unfriendly steps taken by Japan since February 2022, including illegal sanctions against the Russian leadership, citizens, financial institutions and the overall economic field and the divestiture of the most favoured nation status of Russia in the field of trade, are contrary to the spirit and passages of the memorandum.

The objective and tasks specified in the document have lost their meaning and the mutual cooperation based on the document has ended, since the Japanese authorities keep pursuing the anti-Russia policy, noted the Russian Foreign Ministry.
