Wife of honoured disabled soldier awarded Communist Mother Honour Prize

Yu Yong Hui, living in Hongsu-ri in Kilju County, North Hamgyong Province, is the wife of an honoured disabled soldier.

She still keeps a copy of the Rodong Sinmun newspaper published 35 years ago.

It carries a moving article about many soldiers who donated their blood and skin to save the life of their comrade-in-arms who unexpectedly got burns while on military duty.

That soldier who survived was Yu’s husband.

When she got married, what her mother-in-law showed her for the first time was the newspaper.

Though he was discharged, her disabled husband has always been anxious to do even one more good thing for his country, thinking about his comrades-in-arms.

Together with her husband, Yu Yong Hui would prepare farming materials to send them to a farm and would look after children of a workteam nursery as a volunteer.

When her husband became an honorary farmer of a herb sub-workteam, Yu did her best to help him.

She did not mind any hard work though it was easier said than done, as she saw her husband finding greatest joy and happiness in devoting patriotic efforts.

A mother of three children, Yu brought them up to be honest and upright.

As their father was an honoured disabled soldier, teachers and students of their school and villagers cared much for them and Yu would tell them to always give others precedence and behave politely.

Thanks to her excellent education, they grew up into upright persons and joined the army after finishing middle school.

Yu Yong Hui, who has been devotedly following the road of patriotism as the wife of an honoured disabled soldier and mother of three children, was awarded the Communist Mother Honour Prize last year.
