Mt Jongbang is located in Jongbang-ri, 20 kilometres away from the city of Sariwon, North Hwanghae Province.
The mountain has been famous for the unique natural scenery since olden times. It has such historical relics as Jongbangsan Fort, South Gatehouse, Songbul Temple and a five-storey stone pagoda.
Jongbangsan Fort was originally built in the period of Koryo Kingdom (918-1392) and enlarged in 1637.
The fort, 12 kilometres in circumference, was known as the strongest fortress in the Hwanghae provincial area.
The mountain is now a favourite haunt for people as a pleasure ground.
