‘We will sustainably develop agricultural production capacity’

January 17, 2025

Last year the agricultural sector carried out the grain production plan at 107 percent by widely introducing scientific farming methods and further consolidated the material foundations of agricultural production by completing the second-stage irrigation construction and restoration project.

At the Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea General Secretary Kim Jong Un said that the task facing the agricultural sector in 2025 is to attain the grain production goal set by the WPK and lay the foundations for decisively increasing the agricultural output during the period of the new long-term plan.

He assigned tasks and ways in detail to put the country’s agricultural production on the track of stable and sustainable development, including those of building up the material and technical foundations of the agricultural sector, attaching importance to scientific farming and training the ranks of talents who will shoulder the implementation of the rural revolution programme in the new era and large numbers of performers who will transform the socialist rural communities in a systematic way.

We have invaluable experience gained in the course of waging the drive for increased crop harvest by holding fast to the development of science and technology and the courage plucked up in those days.

On the basis of it, we will radically improve the guidance on agricultural production by focusing on increasing the per-hectare yield at all farms across the country.

We will work out an effective strategy for stably increasing the agricultural production and carry out all farming processes in line with the requirements of the Juche farming methods, while continuously arousing public enthusiasm for scientific farming.

We will also consolidate the foundations of the seed sector to meet the demand for seeds of high-yield varieties, take appropriate measures to introduce the cultivating method of nutrient cold seedlings into wider areas and expand the areas of rice-transplantation by machine.

Primary efforts will be directed to preventing drought damage and mechanizing the sowing and harvesting in the farming of preceding crops including wheat and barley to demonstrate the validity and vitality of the Party’s policy on changing the structure of agricultural production in practice.

At the same time, scientific and technical steps will be taken to complete the improvement of the irrigation system and minimize the effects of extreme weather conditions.

By doing so, we will be able to discharge our responsibility and duty in increasing the agricultural production safely and further consolidating the material and technical foundations for the sustainable development of agriculture.
