Lake Samji

January 16, 2025

Lake Samji is about 4 kilometres northeast of the seat of the city of Samjiyon and about 28 kilometres southeast of Janggun Peak of Mt Paektu.

Originally there were seven or eight major lakes called “seven sacred lakes” or “eight sacred lakes”. Later, only three large ones of the lakes remained to be called Lake Samji as they are situated in order north-east and south-west.

The water of the lake is clear and the shore is sandy and surrounded by thick primeval forests, presenting a spectacular view.
