WHO expresses concern over the spread of monkeypox

January 16, 2025

The World Health Organization expressed concern over the spread of monkey smallpox in Africa on January 11. The organization announced that 14 700 confirmed cases were registered in 20 countries on the African continent, and many suspected cases fail to have test due to limited checkup capacity in some countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Accordingly, the spread of monkeypox across the continent is underestimated, it warned, calling on all member states to closely watch the disease.
