Hot wind of scientific farming raised all year round

January 12, 2025

Last year a hot wind of scientific farming was raised in socialist rural communities of the DPRK thanks to the role of scientific farming promotion groups dispatched to cities and counties across the country.

The groups put redoubled efforts into maximizing grain yields. They intensified scientific and technical guidance with emphasis put on disseminating advanced farming methods and experience and solving the practical problems arising in carrying out farming processes in keeping with the full-scale farming season.

They organized a technical training course several times by way of the videoconferencing of the Academy of Agricultural Science and explained to their members and the members of agricultural guidance organs at all levels active on the spot the characteristics of cultivation technology according to rice, wheat, barley and maize varieties, effective methods of weeding paddy  and non-paddy fields, the action features and usage of the seed coating material “Phungnyonmo (rice seedling of bumper harvest) 1” and the scientific farming experience of the Yokkudo Farm in Paechon County, South Hwanghae Province. Then they further intensified the dissemination of advanced farming techniques and relevant sci-tech achievements. As a result, many regions, including Chongdan County in the province, overfulfilled their wheat production plans for the year.

The groups also directed efforts to grasping in time the sci-tech problems arising in carrying out farming processes and taking necessary measures by using the agricultural sci-tech service program “Hwanggumyolmae (golden fruit)”.

While taking measures to supply farms across the country with excellent agricultural sci-tech products, including a bioactivator, new seed coating material and mixed insecticide for rice seedbed, they gave technical guidance over the application of them in a responsible manner.

According to data available, thanks to the role of the groups, intensive workshops, passing-on-technique meetings and demonstrations took place tens of thousands of times, thousands of question and answer services were provided through the agricultural sci-tech service system “Hwanggumyolmae”, tens of thousands of copies of books on agricultural science and techniques, including the guide to insects harmful to major cereal crops, were published and disseminated and many advanced farming methods and technical products, including 10 000 portable semiconductor laser plant irradiation apparatuses, thousands of electrical impulse water treatment devices, phytosine and the seed coating material “Phungnyonmo 1”, were introduced into the agricultural sector to promote growth in agricultural production.

Scientists of Kim Chaek University of Technology installed thousands of electrical impulse water treatment devices at major reservoir water courses and pumping stations to provide a scientific and technological guarantee for further boosting paddy rice yield. And relevant units such as Sariwon Kye Ung Sang University of Agriculture produced and sent lots of “Sinyang 2” compound bacteria and the carbonated plant nutrition booster “Oktho (fertile soil) 1” to farms, thus opening up a broad avenue to improving soil fertility and increasing grain production.

The groups also put in efforts to secure good crop varieties, solve the problem of phosphorus fertilizer, develop and produce efficient farm machines and accelerate the informatization of agriculture.

Meanwhile, the Academy of Agricultural Science and other relevant research institutions increased the production of seeds of sweet potatoes high in sugar content and those of potatoes high in per-hectare yield by means of tissue culture and sent good seeds to farms.

Kim Il Sung University, in cooperation with different units, pushed in a big way the establishment of the process for the pilot production of phosphorus fertilizer and other relevant units, including scientific research units and the Agricultural Commission, took measures to step up the informatization of agriculture.

As a result, the number of the farms, which do farming without the help of others, doubled as compared with the previous year and many units reaped rich harvests.
