For independence and peace

January 6, 2025

The international situation is now tense and complicated as never before.

But the struggle for independence against imperialism and for peace is being waged more actively and vigorously on a worldwide scale.

Efforts to establish just international order

Many countries of the world are strongly reacting to the US and Western forces’ moves of political pressure, economic sanctions and armed invasion aimed at expanding the sphere of domination to the whole world.

Russian President Vladimir Putin clarified the stand of his country that advocates the establishment of a fair system of international relations at a recent credentials presentation ceremony of foreign embassies in the country.

He said that only those who do not know the history and strength of unity of Russia can have a foolish idea of defeating the country and that some Western countries are pursuing the hostile line of expanding and prolonging the Ukrainian dispute in order to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, noting that it is a badly wrong measure.

Russia opens the door to promoting reciprocal cooperation with all countries on the principles of equality, non-interference in internal affairs and respect for international law, and advocates the establishment of a fair system of international economic relations free from unilateral and illegal sanctions and restrictions on political motivation, he said.

Earlier, the Russian foreign minister said at an international seminar that the Eurasian countries should decide on their destiny by themselves, free from any external interference, and settle their issues so that a great Eurasia can contribute to building a stable multipolar world.

The leader of the Iranian Islamic Revolution recently referred to the importance of the youth issue in the confrontation with imperialism in a meeting with civic representatives of a city. He said that the Iranian youth have fought hard against the enemy’s aggression and intervention in the past, that more importance is being attached to the role of the youth for the tense regional situation and that the Iranian young people are an important force fighting against the group of evils, adding that they should display valour, self-sacrificing spirit and perseverance in different types of wars by carrying on the self-sacrificing spirit of martyrs.

The vice-president of Venezuela on a working visit to Vietnam met with the Vietnamese President and discussed various issues in earnest. He expressed thanks to Vietnam for supporting and encouraging Venezuela when it is undergoing trials due to the economic blockade and sanctions by the West, and appreciated the development of mutual collaboration and cooperation between the two countries in the international arena. The Vietnamese President affirmed his will to develop the bilateral relations in a multifaceted way in the future, too.

Africa aspires after independence against imperialism

African countries are now advancing towards independent development, throwing off the long-standing shackles of domination and subordination.

In the past, Niger ushered the US and French troops in its land. But poverty, confusion and terrorism became more rampant in the country, and people lost hope for security and development. Finally, illusions about the West were replaced by disillusions, and the anti-US and anti-French sentiments ran high rapidly among them. And therefore the Niger government resolutely scrapped the “military agreement” with the US in March last year and closed the last US military base in August, thus driving all assets of the US forces out of its land.

The US is also being cold-shouldered and rejected by other countries of the African continents, including Ethiopia and Zambia. The Ethiopian government reproached the American ambassador to the country, who took issue with the news-related measures of the country, talking about “judicial procedure”. It said that he unwarrantedly interferes in its internal affairs without knowing the essence of the issue. A Zambian politician retorted that the US is trying to teach any democracy while inciting rebellion and government overthrow.

Zimbabwe, Uganda and other countries condemned the US and the West for interfering in their internal affairs and sanctions moves, while raising voices for achieving independent and stable development through multilateral cooperation.

The 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union held in Ethiopia in February last year marked an important occasion for African countries to make epochal progress in ensuring peace and stability of the continent and promoting social development by their own efforts and strengthening the position of Africa in the international arena.

Last year, Egypt and Ethiopia officially joined BRICS, demonstrating the will of the African countries to promote cooperation with developing countries and the building of a just multipolar world.

American newspaper The Washington Post carried an article which said that a great change has been made in the international system over the past two decades. Once poor countries have taken the central position from the edge of the international stage and the countries that were mere chessmen have now become chess players trying to choose their own way, it said, adding that it is a big challenge to the US to manage such an international stage.

The senior representative of the European Union for diplomatic and security policy admitted that the days when the West ruled have gone forever in actuality.

It is the inevitability of history to reject domination and subordination and aspire after independent development.
