Public catering establishments across the country including Okryu Restaurant in Pyongyang and Sinhung Restaurant in Hamhung were crowded with visitors.
The pleasant smell of roast chestnuts and sweet potatoes which were served at outdoor stalls in different parts of the capital city added to the festive mood.
New Year greeting cards were served at the greeting card and souvenir shops in Pyongyang and greeting cards and mobile phone messages exchanged between parents and their children, teachers and their disciples, relatives and friends across the country.
The streets of Pyongyang and other parts of the country were decorated with majestic and colourful illuminations.
