Achievements made in tideland reclamation

December 25, 2024

The reclamation of tideland is being conducted dynamically.

The Ninth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea stressed the need to steadily press on with the tideland reclamation and set forth the goal to be achieved this year.

Accordingly, the reclamation of tideland is being pushed in earnest across the country.

Last November, the North Phyongan Provincial General Tideland Reclamation Enterprise powerfully reclaimed Aedo tideland to wind up the major embankment project connecting land with an island.

The reclamation of Aedo tideland is a project for damming the West Sea of Korea and gaining thousands of hectares of new arable land so as to greatly contribute to the agricultural development of the country.

Its completion has made it possible to accelerate the overall project by overcoming the limitations of transporting by ship lots of equipment and materials needed for tideland reclamation.

The enterprise is stepping up the primary water dam project for Aedo tideland at the final stage.

The primary dam project for the fifth district of the Taedong bay tideland in Ongjin County, South Hwanghae Province, has successfully been completed.

Soldier-builders carried out a 200 000- and 300 000-cubic-metre blasts in succession in less than a year and introduced rational construction methods, especially two-tier embankment and upward closure methods according to the variation of water level.

They are now all out to finish the primary dam project within this year in the third district of the Taedong bay tideland.

Bedsides, projects are proceeding as planned in other parts of the country, including the Kakhoedo tideland.
