Pyongyang given a fast facelift
December 25, 2024Marked successes have been achieved in developing Pyongyang into the centre and model of socialist culture and providing the citizens of the capital city with a cleaner and more cultured living environment.
According to information available, the paving project of the Pyongyang-Taedong road was successfully carried out, the Unha area of Pothonggang District took on new looks beyond recognition and a cultural recreation ground was built on Unha and Kumnan islets in the Pothong River, adding to the beautiful scenery of Pyongyang.
The paving project of the Pyongyang-Taedong road was undertaken by Mangyongdae District at a high level.
Hyongjesan and other districts paved tens of thousands of square metres of earth roads with concrete to make the roads flatter and more solid than before.
Pothonggang District completely changed the looks of the Unha area crowded with many institutions and enterprises.
And it produced good results in the development of a cultural recreation ground on Unha and Kumnan islets in the Pothong River. A sports park with volleyball, tennis and badminton courts and service facilities was built on Unha Islet covering an area of over 10 000 square metres, giving pleasure to the citizens. The scenery of Kumnan Islet, on which new outdoor sports grounds were newly built including the ssirum ground and basketball court and trees of good species were planted, blends in well with the terraced houses district of Kyongru-dong on the Pothong riverside.
Samsok District carried out a technical reconstruction of a several kilometre-long section of the road stretching from the township of the district. The whole section of the road was covered with asphalt, protection stakes were fixed, retaining walls newly built in the dangerous parts and zelkova trees planted as street trees to enhance the landscape of the road.
The Hwasong District Landscaping and Greening Station directed efforts to turning the new street built as a monumental edifice into the one in a flower garden.
They injected phytosine, a biogenic activity matter, into zelkova trees planted along the road on the new street and spread medications over the lawns on several stages to prevent damage by blights and harmful insects and raise the rooting rate. They also paid attention to improving the ornamental effect of tall trees planted on the street to add to the beauty of the scenery of the street.
