US’ decline is inevitable, asserts Russian journal
December 20, 2024The Russian Internet magazine Novoe Vostochnoe Obozrenie recently carried articles entitled “Confidence in the US declines in the world” and “US, still the world’s only superpower?”
They said that the world is undergoing a dramatic change of transition from the US-led unipolar world to a multipolar one.
They asserted that the special military operation in Ukraine has essentially put an end to the unipolar world where the US used to teach other countries dos and don’ts, styling itself the supreme ruler, and that the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip from October 2023 has accelerated the transition from the unipolar world to a multipolar one.
Emerging and developing nations no longer regard the West as the “champion” of values and law, they said, noting that the US military invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, its involvement in such conflicts as the one in Ukraine and its support for Israel’s atrocities in the Gaza Strip have reduced its influence and hastened its decline.
The invasion of Iraq, launched on the groundless pretext of WMD, destabilized the Middle East and the US’ defeat in Afghanistan exposed its strategic weakness and instilled confidence into the countries confronting it economically, militarily and ideologically, they emphasized.
They also explained in detail that the status of the US is being lowered in the world by the formation of new alliances of developing countries, such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
In particular, the resolution of BRICS on introducing a single currency for mutual trade and the considerable proportion it assumes in the gross world product are disrupting the US-led economic and political order, they maintained.
Stating that even the Americans have a growing understanding of the diminished international role of their country, they stressed that the transition from the US-led unipolar world to a multipolar one is a reality and consequently all the facts are heralding a new era of international relations.
