Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to the need to bolster up defence capabilities to cope with the moves of the US and the West to escalate tension as he addressed an enlarged meeting of the council of the Defence Ministry on December 16.

Saying that the political and military situation in the world still remains unstable, he noted the present US administration and the West keep attempting to force their domination.

The US and Western countries, in actuality, egg the illegitimate Ukrainian authorities on to expand the dispute as they continue to supply weapons and money and dispatch mercenaries and military advisers there, while scaring their citizens with the argument of “threat from Russia”.

Referring to the fact that NATO member nations are reinforcing strike groups in the areas bordering Russia, he declared that Russia will steadily direct efforts to the buildup of defence capabilities to cope with it.

The share taken by modern weapons accounts for 95 percent in the Russian strategic nuclear forces, he said, stressing that it is important to wage an actual war drills continuously to maintain the potential and balanced development of the nuclear forces and ensure the regular combat posture of the tactical nuclear force.
