Pubyok Pavilion

December 14, 2024

The Pubyok Pavilion is located on Moran Hill at the Taedong riverside in Pyongyang.

Built in 393, it was called Yongmyong Pavilion as it was an annexe to the Yongmyong Temple.

Early in the 12th century, it was renamed Pubyok Pavilion in the meaning that it is a pavilion on Chongnyu Cliff that seems to be floating on the crystal-clear, blue water of the river meandering round the bottom of the cliff.

As a general’s terrace of the north fort of the Walled City of Pyongyang, the pavilion was used as a military commanding post in wartime.

The Pubyok Pavilion goes well with the beautiful scenery of Moran Hill. And the scene of people enjoying the sight of the first full moon from the pavilion is known as one of the eight famous scenes in Pyongyang.
