Russian Foreign Ministry shuts down Polish consulate general

December 11, 2024

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the closure of the Polish Consulate General in St Petersburg on December 5.

The ministry reportedly sent the Polish side a memorandum demanding that its Consulate General in St Petersburg discontinue activities from January 10 2025 as a countermeasure to the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Poznan by the Polish authorities.

Three diplomats of the Polish consulate general were declared persona non grata and therefore have to leave the Russian territory within the fixed period.

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned Poland for actually breaking off the long-standing bilateral relations recently by pursuing a policy of undisguised hostility towards Russia and openly crying for the need to inflict a “strategic defeat” on the country.

Describing the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Poznan under a faked excuse as a typical expression of the anti-Russian line, the ministry stressed that unfriendly measures aimed at Russia will meet with strong counteractions in the future, too.
