Phungsan dog show held
December 11, 2024Shortly ago, the National Dog of Phungsan Show-2024 ran for three days at the Central Zoo in Pyongyang.
Present there were scientists and technicians in the fields of zoology and veterinary work and animal husbandry and inhabitants of provinces who are raising Phungsan dogs.
The show was aimed at further increasing the number of the purebred dogs by conducting a registration and survey and evaluating the dogs and disseminating sci-tech knowledge about the standard form and biological characteristics of the national dog, said Ok Jin Yong, director of the Zootechnics Research Institute of the Academy of Agricultural Science.
The show decided the rankings according to the results of the appearance and special and comprehensive examination of the dogs.
Ok Jin Yong said that the examination was more difficult in the event as excellent dogs had strictly been selected in provincial shows.
Among the participants is Jon Pun Son who is called “Phungsan dog grandma” living in Kim Hyong Gwon County, Ryanggang Province, the home of Phungsan dog. She said that the progenitor of Phungsan dog could be preserved in the native place thanks to the policy of the Workers’ Party and the DPRK government and shared the secret behind the success she has achieved at every show, while raising the national dog for decades, and her opinion about the knack for identifying the purebred Phungsan dog by observing its eyes, ears and neck.
The Phungsan dog show was participated in by many from the city of Sariwon in North Hwanghae Province, which is well known for drawing large numbers of participants in the annual provincial show.
A typical example is Kim Son Suk. The Sariwon population is very interested in Phungsan dog and the number of people raising the dog is increasing day by day, though it is not the original home of the dog, she said, adding that she invented and made necessary equipment in the course of sharing experience with others.
Choe Sok Hwa from Songchongang District, Hamhung, said that not only she but also her married children raise Phungsan dogs. Raising the dog is patriotic work to value and add lustre to our own things, she said, adding that all her family members would take part in the Phungsan dog show next year.
An examination for assessing the special qualities of Phungsan dog, which is clever, tenacious and intrepid, drew special interest of visitors.
