November 16 is Mother's Day in the DPRK.

Marking the day, everyone makes every sincere effort to please their mothers and the whole country is in an atmosphere of respect and affection for mothers.

At the first national conference of mothers held in the country in November 1961, President Kim Il Sung referred to the importance of the duty and role of mothers in the education of children.

Thus, mothers in the country came to realize their duty and mission anew.

Though weak as females, they devoted themselves to bringing up not only the future of their families but also that of the country with strong mental power and will, and became the foundations, models and teachers for the development and education of their children.

Despite manifold trials and difficulties in the way of advance of socialism, children grew up vigorously and all parts of the country resounded with the happy singing of children free of worry thanks to their mothers’ noble traits and unassuming devotion.

So, all winners of hero medals, doctor’s medals, gold medals and other decorations bow in humble reverence to their mothers, who instilled in them valuable memories of their families, the preciousness of the country and the sense of mission for it, with filial affection and disciples’ affection for their true teachers in life.

In December last year the country arranged the fifth national conference of mothers splendidly for those who had made a great contribution to the prosperity and development of the country with irreplaceable love and affection. And the Communist Mother Honour Prize was instituted for the first time at the meeting.

It is the aspiration of mothers in the country to live as communist mothers and the winners of the prize will continue to increase.
