Russian deputy foreign minister refers to amendment of nuclear doctrine
October 29, 2024Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryavkov referred to the amendment of the country’s nuclear doctrine in an interview with Serbian newspaper Politika on October 22.
The former nuclear deterrence conception has not operated satisfactorily, and Russia’s nuclear doctrine requires amendment, he said.
The work of amending the keystone of state policy of the Russian Federation is being conducted in consideration of experiences obtained from special military operations and all the circumstances related to the ceaseless support by Western patrons for the Ukrainian authorities, he said.
Though Russia does not want war, it will not tolerate the ongoing infringement on the fundamental security interests of the state and people, he said, adding that the relationship between Russia and the US, in actuality, has on a record-low level in decades and they should not underestimate the risk that a direct conflict may occur between the two countries under the present conditions.
