Arm wrestling wins popularity

The ongoing National Inter-Provincial Games-2024 in Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Sports Day are getting livelier with the passage of time.

With the preliminaries of sports events taking place fiercely, an event attracted the attention of people since the games commenced, especially among men.

It was the arm wrestling contest which started at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium on October 17.

It is the first time for arm wrestling to appear as an independent event of the games. Therefore, spectators gazed the matches with great curiosity.

Moreover, spectators showed keen interest since famous wrestling aces across the country took part in the event. 

Three players from each team took part in them to contend by way of single-round match. 

When Song Chol Min, two-time winner of the the Grand Bull Prize National Ssirum Contest, beat a player from Ryanggang Province, spectators lavished praise on him, saying that the ssirum wrestler is indeed uncommon.

The Pyongyang municipal team beat Ryanggang provincial team 3-0.

Among North Phyongan provincial contestants who competed with the opponents from Jagang Province, there were some ssirum  aces.

Spectators were optimistic about the victory of North Phyongan Province as they saw Jo Myong Jin, who won the Grand Bull Prize National Ssirum Contest twice like Pyongyang’s Song, and this year’s winner Choe Tong Bom.

Contrary to the expectation of spectators, the two wrestling stars lost in the matches and therefore the matches ended in favour of Jagang Province.

Kangwon Province beat Rason City 2-1, while South Hamgyong Province saw off Nampho City 3-0 and North Hamgyong Province thrashed South Phyongan Province 3-0.

The finals of the contest arousing the curiosity of everyone as its matches have produced unpredictable results in a moment will be played on October 30.
