Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to the issue concerning the development of world sports in his speech delivered at the plenary meeting “Russia—Sports power”. 

Asserting that the future of global sports necessitates a serious and in-depth discussion, he said that solutions should be jointly sought in order to overcome the present difficult challenges, prevent division of the international sports circles and separate sports from nasty politicization, double standards, distorted rules and insulting discrimination.

It is clear that today some forces are trying to reduce the world sports and Olympic movement, which are an arena of honest competition, to a field for spreading structure-destroying neoliberalism, propagandizing improper rules and pseudo freedom and denying the traditional values, he stressed.  

Saying that Russia values and loves free and honest sports run through with the spirit of friendship and unity, he expressed his belief that most countries of the world opt for equality, openness and mutual respect in all cooperation fields including sports.
