Plastic particles threaten human lives
October 22, 2024Shortly ago, university researchers of a country discovered plastic particles in human brains for the first time. It was reported that the size of micro plastic found in bulbus olfactorius, a very small section in the brain which is related to olfaction, was some 5.5㎛.
A scientist, who undertook the research, said that plastic particles might have been inhaled through the nose and that when a man breathes, the nerve cell in the nasal cavity is connected with bulbus olfactorius, confirming that the plastic particles went into the brain through that.
It has already been proved that plastic particles, which find their way everywhere including the remote Antarctic through atmospheric circulation, infiltrate into the human body.
According to information, they directly go into blood through digestive and respiratory organs and infiltrate into several parts of the human body including the heart after circulating in blood. They even make inroads into cells and can enter the interior of unborn child’s body through placenta.
According to the result of an examination of the excrement of eight nations in 2018, nine kinds of plastic particles were discovered in one person to the maximum. Earlier, residues of plastic particles were detected in blood and urine of children and young people. But plastic particles had not been found in the brain.
Previous research projects had mainly been directed to the fact that humans might take in micro plastics in the course of their survival activities.
But the recent research result shows that plastic particles can threaten human lives to arouse serious concern.
At present, researchers are investigating plastic particles’ potential effects on human health. According to them, a patient having plastic particles in carotid has relatively a strong possibility of having cerebral apoplexy.
“We recognize that this research result serves as the first valid evidence. People worry about whether the plastic particles cause nervous and mental diseases in the brain, especially, at the development stage,” said a researcher.
Warning that it will be dangerous if plastic particles are accumulated in ecological environment and all living organisms, experts assert that it is necessary to act urgently to solve the issue of global plastic “epidemic” and save human lives.
