Kim Chol Man is a Merited Designer and director of the Steel Design Institute under the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry.
When he started out on his design career more than 30 years ago, a veteran designer told him that designers should deal with every single point, line and mark seriously, because if they fail to do so, precious public property would be gone and they would cause a colossal waste of labour and time.
Bearing his words deep in mind, Kim racked his brains to make every assigned design perfect.
While managing administrative affairs as director of the institute, he took part in the creation of basic designs for blast furnaces to be built at different industrial establishments in the metal industry sector and the designs for overhaul of blast furnaces. In that course, he came up with over 10 valuable plans and was highly appreciated at national sci-tech festivals.
As he undertook a difficult task in the project for the technical upgrading of the energy-saving oxygen blast furnace at the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex last year, he contributed to producing a novel design which made it possible to carry out the upgrading at an early date while saving a large quantity of materials.
He was awarded the title of Merited Designer in April this year for his big contribution to the establishment of the Juche-based system of producing iron.

His father, who had worked in the construction sector all his life, told him that day:
“Man must be able to feel pleasure and pride everywhere. No occupation can give me pride as much as the builders’ job."
Therefore, he followed in his father’s footsteps.
He always took the lead in difficult work and called on skilled workers in order to improve his skills, and in the course of this he became a renowned innovator, versatile worker and workteam leader as he won the trust of the collective.
Such monumental structures as Mirae Scientists Street, Central Zoo, Natural History Museum and Ryomyong, Songhwa and Hwasong streets, which were built year after year are associated with the sweat shed by him and his workteam members.
