September and October are autumn medicinal herb cultivation months in the DPRK.

The Pyongyang municipal Koryo medicine production management bureau is making sure that medicinal herb production units and mass medicinal herb procurement units observe technical regulations in the gathering and storage of herbs and the securing of their seeds, in order to completely collect the herbs that were cultivated with much effort throughout spring and summer.

The Koryo medicine production sector in each province dispatched experts to medicinal herb production units to ensure that the gathering time is set in keeping with the characteristics of each medicinal herb species and the herbs are collected accordingly. 

The Ryongsong district medicinal herb management station, which introduced a combined management method that cultivates medicinal trees and herbs together in spring this year, has made great efforts to solve scientific and technological problems, so as to make this method pay off. 

The employees of the station who have reaped good fruits by their own efforts are now manuring the fields, where herb gathering was finished, with the muck from animal sheds as part of preparations for next year’s herb farming. 

Yonthan County had planted large numbers of saplings of aronia that is an effective medicinal tree by regarding herb farming as an essential affair for the development of regional public health. As a result, it reaped a good harvest. It is now gathering lots of fruits of other medicinal trees like hawthorn and dogwood. 

As medicinal herbs have been cultivated as an all-inclusive mass movement, herb fields appeared at institutions and industrial establishments, around villages, at the foot of mountains and along the riverside in all provinces, cities and counties, and the aroma of herbs is now wafting through the air at those fields.
