“A single step taken by all workteams and sub-workteams is more precious than the ten or hundred steps taken by a few units.” This is the truth that farmers of the Manphung Farm in Jungsan County keep in their mind, who have set an example in grain production in recent years. 

One of the issues the farm prioritized to make its units advance and develop all together was to ensure that backward units are shored up by increasing the efficiency of the socialist emulation drive. 

Competitions were also held in the past, but as they followed an old method, there was little change in the rankings and farmers were low in their competitive spirit. 

Therefore, the farm organized an exceptional competition among tractor drivers, seedbed tenders and rice-paddy irrigation managers who play an important role in carrying out farming processes and made special efforts to make the competition prove effective in practice. 

For example, in the competition among tractor drivers, working days, the amount of work done and fuel consumption per work area were added as important items of evaluation, which resulted in the elimination of the practice of tilling fields again for failing to ensure deep ploughing and a surge in the drivers’ zeal for work. 

And to raise the efficiency of the competition, the farm also attached importance to the rate of fulfilment of plans for overall farming processes by workteams and sub-workteams in the review and evaluation, not to individual performance. This has resulted in closer attention to the backward units and farmers in workteams and sub-workteams and growing enthusiasm of the masses and consequent good farming results.
