Natural monument – Maktae Rock
October 4, 2024Maktae Rock stands about 700m away towards Pangung-ri from the seat of Namap-ri in Yomju County, North Phyongan Province.
A low hill rises in the east and vast paddy fields spread in the west. And there is the West Sea of Korea some kilometres away from there.
As it was washed and worn by rain and wind for a long time through many geological ages, its peripheral bedrocks disappeared and the dyke of red felsite which had been inside the rock is now exposed due to the erosion by the sea and weathering.
Maktae Rock is 10 metres high and 16 metres round at the bottom.
